Floor installation in Cumming, GA

Forsyth County has grown faster than almost any county in Georgia, and Cumming homes show it. South of downtown you find newer construction where builders installed carpet or thin builder-grade flooring to hit a price point. Closer to Sawnee Mountain and the older streets near the square, you find ranches and split levels from the 1980s and 1990s with floors that have simply worn out. Both types of homes end up calling us for the same reason, the owners want real flooring that lasts.

We are a local flooring company based in Cumming, and hardwood installation is the core of what we do. Solid oak, hickory, and maple, installed and finished on site, or quality prefinished and engineered planks when the home calls for them. We also install luxury vinyl plank, laminate, and tile, so if a basement near Lake Lanier or a busy mudroom needs something other than wood, we can handle the whole house in one project.

Every install starts with the subfloor, not the boards. Cumming sits on red clay, and many homes here have crawlspaces that hold moisture in our humid summers. We test moisture, flatten and secure the subfloor, and acclimate the wood before a single plank goes down. That is the difference between a floor that stays quiet and tight and one that cups or gaps within a year.

Neighborhoods we serve in Cumming

We work all over Forsyth County, from the lake communities off Buford Dam Road to the golf neighborhoods along the Highway 9 corridor. Because we live and work here, we know the construction quirks of local builders, which subdivisions sit on slabs, which have crawlspaces, and what buyers in each neighborhood expect to see when a home goes on the market. Recent projects have taken us to these Cumming communities:

  • Vickery
  • Windermere
  • Creekstone Estates
  • Three Chimneys Farm
  • Lake Astoria
  • Eagles Landing
  • Hampton Golf Village
  • Mountain Crest

Flooring installation services

Hardwood comes first. For main levels we usually recommend three quarter inch solid hardwood nailed over a wood subfloor, sanded and finished in place so the floor is one continuous surface with no beveled edges to catch dirt. If you prefer a factory finish, we install prefinished planks with tight attention to layout and transitions. For homes on concrete slabs, and there are plenty of them in newer Cumming subdivisions, engineered hardwood glued or floated over a moisture barrier gives you the same look with better stability.

Not every room should get wood, and we will tell you so. Finished basements, laundry rooms, and rental properties often do better with luxury vinyl plank that shrugs off water. Kitchens and baths sometimes call for tile. We install all of it, which means one crew, one schedule, and consistent transitions from room to room instead of three different contractors guessing at heights.

A typical project includes:

  • Removal and haul away of old carpet, laminate, or worn flooring
  • Subfloor repair, leveling, and moisture testing
  • Solid, engineered, or prefinished hardwood installation
  • Luxury vinyl plank, laminate, and tile installation
  • Stair treads, risers, and matching trim work
  • Furniture moving coordinated around the work

Our 5 step process

  1. In-home visit. We measure, check the subfloor and moisture levels, and talk through wood species, plank width, and finish options in your actual light.
  2. Firm written estimate. You get a clear scope and price, not an allowance that grows later.
  3. Material delivery and acclimation. Wood sits in your home for several days so it adjusts to indoor humidity before installation.
  4. Installation. We remove old flooring, prep the subfloor, and install, then sand and finish on site if you chose a site-finished floor.
  5. Final walkthrough. We inspect every room with you, adjust transitions and trim, and leave the house clean.

Frequently asked questions

How long does hardwood need to acclimate in Cumming?

Usually three to five days inside your home with the HVAC running normally. Georgia humidity swings hard between summer and winter, so we also measure the moisture content of the wood and the subfloor rather than just counting days. Installation starts only when the numbers line up.

Can you install hardwood over a concrete slab?

Yes. Many newer Forsyth County homes are built on slabs. We test the slab for moisture, then install engineered hardwood with glue-down or floating methods over a proper vapor barrier. Solid three quarter inch wood is generally not the right product directly over concrete, and we will explain the options honestly.

Should I choose site-finished or prefinished hardwood?

Site-finished gives a smooth continuous surface and lets you pick any stain color, which matters if you are matching existing floors. Prefinished installs faster with no dust or finish odor. We install both and will walk you through the tradeoffs for your specific rooms.

How long does a whole main level take?

A typical Cumming main level of 1,000 to 1,500 square feet takes about a week for prefinished wood, and closer to two weeks for site-finished once you include sanding, staining, and cure time. We give you a day by day schedule before we start.

Do you remove old flooring and move furniture?

Yes to both. We tear out and haul away carpet, laminate, or old wood, and we move furniture room by room as the work progresses. You do not need to empty the house before we arrive.
